Perodua Nautica: The Ideal 4WD?

After Protons New Saga… their rival Perodua finally unleashed their latest model which has a catchy name… Known as Perodua Nautica, I felt rather excited to discover how the new Kembara replacement would look like. Yeah, judging from the grand name.. and not mentioning the huge RM90k price tage, I was expecting something that would wow me immediately…
but… I was disappointed. Yeah.. really disappointed. I was expecting something like Toyota Rush which cost around RM80k or less.. but I saw something similar to the old Perodua Kembara. Ahhh…. another typical Malaysian upgrade.
I care less if it was essembled in Japan. I dont care if it is so much influenced by the Japan technology.. but for RM90k, I’d really like something that would wow me at my first impression. Something like the MyVi you know… or when you first saw the Proton Persona or Satra Neo, which I still regard as the best ever looking Proton cars.
So, the Nautica comes with the 5 spoke alloy rims. Yeah.. it does have a spare tyre cover. Its equip with a rear spoiler.. and so many bottle holders you can actually loose count.. but its still not the ideal 4WD for me. The car felt like it was lacking so much… and I do mean so much.
The interior looks simple and compact, while I felt the legroom and headroom was adequate. As for the engine, it looked compact enough that I felt you could actually haul it up on a motorcycle. I have to say I love the roof rails and the fact that it seems rather solid and well built when I knowck it here and tehre like a typical Malaysian trying to make sure the car really exist. Didn’t notice any major defects, but still felt unsure about the design. Oh, loved the new Perodua logo too.. silver and black.. my favorite two colors.
I don’t think I need to go that far to predict a disaster for Perodua for this new 4WD. The price is unattractive, and well.. try this.. Perodua.. or Toyota.. hahahhaha… I know… which one I’d go for..
Anyway, if your asking about the specs… here’s what I got from Perodua:

Well they say the Nautica is basically a step up from the Rush and Perodua’s strategy on this model is to target premium buyers. Thus, the modest sales target of 150-200 units a month.
Doesn’t look all that premium to me though. The only thing this SUV can brag about in the looks deparment is its rather good-looking rear. Other than that, everything else screams economy/compact (despite the fact that its not!).
Let’s see how it sells. =)

it’s actually of toyota rush/daihatsu design, no?
i haven’t seen the actual car myself, then again i ain’t a car dude.
irene, it’s an ‘imported’ car what.. it’s never assembled in Malaysia.

Indeed, if it’s under the brand of Perodua, it will be consider a local car. Not worth it with that kind of price, you can get better ones from Toyota, a Japanese brand though we know it’s not assembled in Japan The value is better compare to Perodua.

I have seen the car for real in the showroom and also the Rush…. I am rather disappointed with the Rush so that would speak volumes for Nautica they are after all abang-adik…..
The Rush’s interior looks better, colour, the whole front dash and the shift stick styling much much better than Nautica. The major problem for me with this car is the power……. or the lack of! 1.5l with only a little over 100bhp? that is very sad indeed…. it was really crawling with 4 adults in the car and going up a relatively gentle hill… you can hear the engine revving.. not much for sound proofing and the gear change feels “nudging/ lurching” this of course comparing with honda city… I know it is not a 4WD but comparing the engine performance, smooth drive and the COST, nautica or rush is not really worth it in my opinion BUT then again what other SUV / 4WD can you get at this price??? May as well pay a bit more and be happy and proud with the purchase…

I have seen a couple only but I see more Rush on the road…. Test drove the Nautica yesterday….. though I didi not have the same number of people with me in the car as when I test drove the Rush, the performance’s a little better and the feel of the drive smoother….. I don’t know, should be the same right?? The suspension was not a s hard as the rush … should be the same again right? hmmmm…. maybe if they knocked down the price by about 10k or so that would be great!!
Perodua’s not pushing real hard on the sale of nautica. The car is not their strength and it’s probably the “biggest” car in their stock! Their most popular cars are Myvi & Kelisa I think.
Well, if they don’t do so well, maybe they will slash the price?
