SPM & STPM ‘08: Trails & Errors

SPM.. I could still feel how exciting it was going to school just to get the results. I remember how anxious I was, and I even took the bus all the way from Serian just to get my results in Kuching. The results were not out when I arrived, and I have to say.. the wait was agonizing as it was only out at about 1120am. But well, that was then, now is now. This was after all my first ever SPM result as a teacher.. and I am anxious to know what my students got for their Science.
I went to the office at 930am, knowing that results normally get release at 10am. By the time I arrived, the office was a buzz. Fadillah smiled at me, and asked how was my paper.. and I said.. “now.. let me see..“. To my surprise, and other teachers.. some students actually only passed my Science paper.. and failed the others.. wuahahaha.. (I do have the right to smile and laugh you know..) hahahha.. Overall.. it was a 85% pass for my class, and those whom failed my paper was already doomed from the day I stepped into the class. What else is there to say?
By this time, I was already anticipating a huge crowd at the foyer of the admin building.. the place the results would be released. Ahh.. the SPM anxious crowd.. Was looking forward to get a few snaps of those crying faces of joy and sadness… but… when i stepped down.. I was shocked..
Except for a few of my colleagues busy arranging the student’s certs, the place was basically EMPTY…

No one.. as if SPM is not a big deal..
This was obviously very different from the previous day when the STPM results were announced. The excitement was huge. Students were anxious and waiting for the results to be produced. Even the teacher’s were anxious to give them out.. It was fun looking at the student’s expression..

She cried of joy!!

Yusoff was more than happy to help the STPM students open their result slips

After Yusoff opened the slip, the students would ‘peek’ for their results..hehheh
Ah.. the STPM result day made the SPM result day seem so lame and boring. There was no excitement at all. I left after a while, knowing nothing was to be seen… (the atmosphere actually picked up after a while, but it was far from the STPM result day)

SPM result day: Around 11am… Finally, there was people..
I guess, the best news of the day is to know, my sister, Cannilia scored 9A’s and 1B in he SPM. Congrats to you sis!! So far, you have the best result in SPM in the whole of the family!! I’m jealous..hehehehahahah…

So how will the overall results fare for the teaching of Science & Maths in English? Any change in policy expected soon or its status quo?

>>> As a teacher.. i think they should stick to the policy.. results seem to go up.. but I think the base line marks could have been lowered. For me, the best way is to teach English for Science and Maths for the good students, and the not so performing students given the option to learn in BM.
