Review: The New Proton Saga 2008

Like I said yesterday, I made myself available for the launching of the new Proton Saga, and yes I did, despite already looking at what it looks like. I even got an SMS from one of the dealers which said that they will be launching the New Proton Saga at 5pm. Ecstatic as I was to see the new car, I decided to be very much punctual and arrived at 450pm.

Hmm… I guess, the dealer was actually using Malaysian time, because upon my arrival, I saw the car still under wraps, and a huge A4 size notice saying that the car will only be unveiled at 530pm!!!. WTF?? Ahhh.. Typical!

Anyway, I patiently waited with the others, and 10 minutes into my wait, they finally unveiled the car! YaY!!!

One word.. Stylish!!!

Elegant…That’s what I though when I saw it in person.

Open it up!!.

I just have to say that, by far.. this is the best car produced by Proton. I tried to find gaps here and there, but couldn’t. It was built solid, and had a simple, but seemed very expensive exterior and interior. I guess, I really can’t really explain, so you have to see my shots of the new Proton Saga.

If you murdered someone, or two, you can easily keep their bodies here.

Of course, I sat inside the car, and it was damn spacious! I mean really spacious. Felt like I was in some sort of luxury car! What I loved was its very nice & sporty dashboard, buttons, steering wheel, cup holders, bottle holder, semi-bucket seats, tissue compartment, and of course the seats. I tried to find the height adjuster for the seats, but failed. To me, the interior seemed rather luxurious if you compare to the price. Of course the head room and leg room is bigger than other cars.

The physical side of the car was also quite an eye piece. I loved the black and silver Proton logo very very much. It looked really classy. On top of that, the rear lights was just an eye piece! Man, this is like the most luxurious looking car, but without that luxurious price tag!

I still love the ass of this car!! Sexy!!

Hmm… I think you guys still don’t believe me because I seem to be planting praises on this car despite it being manufactured by Proton. Oh well, your choice. The only thing I disliked was the rear windows which was not power windows. You had to do it the old fashion way. Another thing I disliked was the finishing in the bonnet. Altough it did seem really neat, but the zap-on interior seemed quite badly finished, but maybe this was done so that you could clean it up easily.

The old fashion way.. roll ‘em down baby!!

Spare tire compartment

I left the showroom after getting the free food on offer by Proton Edar…(hehehehehe). That didn’t really satisfy me, so I rushed to Sugarbun to eat. Weirdly, I somehow lost my appetite after a while. It was awkward, and uncomfortable.. so I left with my stomach half full, and a very awkward feeling inside.

Now, I’m blogging about the New Proton Saga. I think, this is the car.. and I’d be happy to own one. After all, I did compare it to the MyVi. After all,its reasonably priced as you can see below (Sarawak price):

SAGA 1.3(M) Solid N-Line - RM34,294.30
SAGA 1.3(M) Solid B-Line - RM37,325.20
SAGA 1.3(A) Solid B-Line - RM40,308.10
SAGA 1.3(M) Metalic B-Line - RM37,775.20
SAGA 1.3(A) Metalic B-Line - RM40,758.10
SAGA 1.3(M) Solid M-Line - RM39,808.10
SAGA 1.3(A) Solid M-Line - RM42,296.10
SAGA 1.3(M) Metalic M-Line - RM40,258.10
SAGA 1.3(A) Metalic M-Line - RM42,746.70

Before I end this photo friendly post.. check out a close-up of the rear lights!

Like they said.. A NEW SAGA BEGINS!!

    >>>If you have the MyVi.. don’t change la.. MyVi is a good car. If I had the cash, I’d buy the MyVi.. I actually enjoy it. But becoz of budget, the Proton Saga is my choice.

    >>>I am getting it. Its within my budget. Its kind of like , I have no choice..

  7. ember Says:

wow..so you went there on the first day? hehehe.

I just came back from the showroom and i’m pretty satisfied with the build quality. =D my dad *may* book it tomorrow..but we were told the wait is 2-4 months LOL. How long was the wait when you booked?

And hey, lots of sexy butt shots man! xD

  8. cdason Says:

The dealer kind of told me the same thing, but said the first shipment is due to come this 25th January. I hope mine will only come after CNY. No point having a car now that the holidays are just so new. Sume more, I dont want to get the first batch.

You know, the 1st batch always have hitches here and there..

  9. fudge Says:

thanks cyril for the saga vs myvi comparison entry. its very helpful. i’m now recommending my sister in law to get saga as her first car. like u said, its very affordable, especially for those first time owners. and of course more solid than viva, which looks very flimsy.

my only concern is how the car condition would be like after 6 months on the road. hopefully saga is better than its other sibblings: waja, gen-2. maybe you can do an entry on that one day. :)

btw, u’re very lucky u can get the car after CNY. west malaysia’s waiting list is 4 mths! well, for kl la.

Waiting for a real review of the car from you :) I don trust those professional reviewers who talk about Tourque la… RPM la… you are an honest reviewer so let’s hear yours when you finally drive one.

    >>>No problem Fudge.. Its a good thing my review helped. Still hoping to drive the car so that I can really compare it and know whether it has that “WOW” factor. Emm.. I don’t think I’ll get the car that soon. *sigh*

    Deejay
    >>>definately bro.. I don’t l know much about cars.. but if its a good car, and the driving experience is awesome or not.. I’ll let you guys know. By the way, who cares about torque when you have words like .. “suoer pick -up.., comfortable.. and really speedy?? hahahha

The one that got me hooked is the airbags. Having airbag for $30+k car is worth serious consideration. I’ve a small family, self employed with a decent unspectacular income. This new saga seems to have it all for me, decent exterior (without significant flaws), functional interior, space, reliable fuel efficient good powered low maintenance engine (so proton claims, we shall see), airbags and an attractive price line. I’m basically sold, but of course I’m aware of the claims from many ‘If you wan to buy new plotonnn, wait for piew mo months lorr, when they oledi obercome all the plobrems, thenn you puyyy lorrr!’

Wise words from my good buddy, Cheah.

Btw, kudos to Proton for the grill design. At last, no more ugly face… now let’s hope Perodua takes cue.

  13. cdason Says:

I personally think Perodua has produced more decent cars than Proton. Proton’s introduction of the Saga BLM is just a way to get back sales.. but I do really hope that the price will not justify the quality. Its time Proton came up with cheap, but quality models.. and BLM might be the answer.

But as you said.. the price + Airbag + nice look = MUST BUY!

  14. cdason Says:

I havent actually drove the BLM.. but I your comments kind of assured me of its quality.. U are actually the first to say something good about the old refurbished Saga,…

Hope the BLM is not a disappointment.
