Review: tHe Spring, Kuching EP1

When you talk about shopping malls, my post about the Boulevard Shopping Mall, Kuching does make you wonder whether there would be any decent shopping mall in Kuching in the near future. Now, I guess there is, and Kuchinginites call it tHe Spring!!

Yeah, Kuching has long been deprived of a decent shopping mall, but happily, tHe Spring has lived up to the expectations. Lived up to my expectations. I actually didn’t want to go here that early because I knew the whole of Kuching would flock this mall like ‘sakai‘ people. Yeah, Kuchinginites are a ‘sakai‘ lot. They don’t care if they get compounded for illegal parking, or whether they would literally drive a kilometre, an hour due to the huge traffic jam. They would be there, being the first to see Kuching’s newest addition!

But then again, who could blame them? Kuching has not seen any new malls since 5 years ago?? 10 years maybe.. or even longer.. so I guess it justifies their enthusiasm on tHe Spring. Anyway, I decided to drop by the mall to check it out because I had to do some errands in the city. Since I was kind of ‘forced’ to go out, I thought.. “Why not??“. Signs of a huge crowd were obvious the minute I turned my dependable Honda EX5 into Jalan Tabuan. The closer I got to tHe Spring, the slower the traffic was. You just knew where everyone was heading. Parking was difficult. Even those using bikes like me were not spared. Like I said, the whole Kuching must be here!!

Anyway, I have to make this statement bold and honest…
tHe SPRING ROCKS, BIGTIME!!!

No, I’m not joking!! and NO.. tHe Spring didn’t have to make me say that. Its totally 101% true!! This is the mall which will make Tun Jugah feel like a little baby. This is the mall which will make Boulevard Shopping Mall cry of anguish. This is the mall to beat!!

The interior of the whole complex was just amazing. Shops were already operating, with designer labels ready to serve. I bet the girls would be happy to see their favourite brand, NOSE open here.
NOSE
Actually, I did try to get the photos of more shops, but I have to admit that tHe Spring is not really camera friendly. Their huge pillars kept my photo shots at limited range, and if it wasn’t the pillars, it was the head of some Kuchinginite strolling by. Okay, I got annoyed. So I made a different approach.. and got these photos to show off.

Hmm.. I wonder how Free got lost here. Its not really that big, and I do mean MidValley Megamall, KL big. But the design looks rather simple in the sense that everywhere you go leads you to the centre of the mall. At some point, I thought that the mall was crossed shaped.

The food court or the food bazaar is a must visit! I have by far, never seen anything so luxurious in Kuching. Do not compare Siang Siang corner with this, because tHe Spring’s food bazaar its way above their standards! How can I put it?? Its just really classy!! The price looks a little of the edge for the lower income, but I think with the decoration and everything, its just justifies the price, and is also quite cheap.

Oh ya, my favourite Chicken roaster was also doing very well, with those craving Japanese food filling up Sushi King.

Anyway, I think that’s all for today. I’m tired. I had to redo a couple of post, and despite tHe Spring’s magnificent 1st day, I had a rather unlucky one. I lost a RM50 security device for my online banking, I took my lunch only after waiting an hour for it (the owner served people whom came later, and totally forgot about me!!), and some of my paid post here, in cdason[dot]com got deleted, so I had to retype them again. The worst part is that some of your comments got deleted too!! Haiii~~~

I guess, you did notice the EP1 at the title, so check out the EP2, coz I have more on tHe Spring!

wah… u guys even have charles and keith! i’m impress.

but yeah, it high time for kuchingites to have a new mall. the last time i was there, was really dissapointed with the mall. so very the 80s. so now you guys have got something to be proud off. no need to be jealous of the sabahan anymore, kan?

  3. eda Says:

yes!!!! at last i can add one more activity when i visit kch beside eating :shopping.. hahahah.. nice la..cant wait to go there.. and what i love the most, they have FOS there.. yea!

  4. Lloyd Says:

I guess I’m pretty sad to be called a Kuchingite for not being able to visit the Boulevard and The Spring YET!!! But I’ll definitely go to Spring 1st cause it has my favourite multi-lable boutique, FOS!!! Yaye!!! Thank god, now I don’t need to make it a point to fly all the way to KL or Warisan Square just to shop for nice clothes.

Personally, I don’t even think brands like Guess, G2000, U2, Topman, British India and loads of others can rival FOS. Mainly it offers branded rejects (Hey!! They are still super wearable, OK ?), at a much much cheaper price.

  6. cdason Says:

Lloyd, if you want to really enjoy tHe Spring, you should go when all shops are open. Its not really a matter of being the first, unless you are writing about it like me *LOL*…

but yeah…No MORE SHOPPING IN WARISAN SQUARE!! I’m not really into FOS coz so far, I don’t see anything I like there.. but Padini.. hehehehe… definitely a place I can enjoy shopping. Just that, I’ll end up broke for the next few months after going there..

  7. ember Says:

Yeap, I’ll have to agree with you (i’m sure everyone does, ahah) that the Spring rocks big time. =D

Well, you *could* get lost in there, since it doesn’t really feel like a huge ‘block’ like Boulevard does. But I guess Free wouldn’t be dealing with that problem that much anymore since he’ll be working at Switch.Hehe xD

    Nice pictures! Where’s EP2 already? Haha. =P

  19. cdason Says:

At some point.. it is.. but its still the best place to be in Kuching in terms of malls.
