The New Proton Saga (BLM)
I think most of you guys have already known that I am looking for a car. Its no secret. I have put my eyes on a new MyVi, and I am feeling pretty generous to say that since its new year, it would really be something to own a new car. I have been thinking of buying a car for ages (or it just feels that way).
Now that I have finally decided that MyVi is the way to go, Proton comes sneaking from behind and announcing they will unveil a new model for Rm30,000-RM35,000!! Dudes, that’s like almost the same cost of a Kancil or Viva!! I looked up PaulTan’s site, and found a few photo’s of the said to be new Proton Saga or now known as Proton BLM.

New Proton BLM?? (Photo from Patulan.org)
Its a sedan, and according to PaulTan, its one of those baseline models. The way I see it, it looks really expensive to be going out for RM35,000 (at the most)… and it looks kind of nice for a Proton car. The car would come in 7 colours as you see below:

Some say it looks like a Mercedes, but others think of it as the Savvy sedan. I think, I’d go for the second one as the Persona is sort of the Gen2 sedan. Hmm.. now, I’m kind of not sure what to go for now. I did try to ask a few friends about getting Proton, but their responses were typical, and some even cut me off with the words “Don’t buy Protonlah.. You’ll regret it“… before I could finish my question.
If I were to compare both, it would be significant. Perodua has produced a very decent MyVi, and with quality slightly leaning towards them, I am of course in favour of a MyVi. The thing is, I love difference… and MyVi is like totally ruling the streets of Malaysia. In addition to that, its more expensive for a 1.3litre engine, and not mentioning a little smaller. On the other hand, This new Proton BLM seems rather nice, and its different. The price is absolutely right, but Proton’s poor QC checks and also bad history has made me have some reservation over getting one. I mean, what’s the point of having a new car but spending money on repairs? right? Nonetheless, people say that Proton has improved in recent months, but I really don’t know whether that is true.
Despite Proton’s bad image getting stuck in my head, I have to admit that the Persona and Savvy were kind of nice, and do seem to have an extra edge. This has actually made me kind of anxious to look at this new car, and who knows.. maybe make me think differently of Proton. In the meantime, I found the new proton’s trailer quite nice.
Cool, huh??
Now, I’m in a dilemma. I’ll definitely be waiting for the new Proton Saga, but if MyVi has an offer, which I can’t reject, I might not wait. Nonetheless, I think, once I’ve owned a car, I might just be another one of those car drivers which would forget about those motorcycle rider.. Damn.. I hope I don’t.
Oh ya.. Please click the small triangle on the top right of this site. If you don’t know what its for.. its ok.. click it, and you’ll know. I promise nothing bad would happen to you.. or your PC.. but if you don’t.. you might get nightmares of that small triangle on that top right calling out for you.. hehehe..

Happy New Year 2008! About choosing your car, you have to make your own evaluation as you will be the one using ‘and enjoying’ the car. Before you pick the MyVi have a wait for the Proton to come out and compare it. If you feel you wanna have an early feel of the BLM, test drive a Savvy
and a Saga. But at RM30 - RM35, the price would pretty much make the MyVi left behind. But bear in mnd that this is suppoed to be a replacement for the Saga (but built on a Savvy basic frame) while the Persona was supposed to be a replacement for the Wira (but built on a Gen 2 Platform). The Saga is known for many shortcomings so keep that in check when they intro the actual model. Who knos it could be your dream girl all this while. Buying it, you save the extra bucks to deposit for your new house
and you know the proces of hiuses are spiralling crazily up up and away these days. Consider that when buying your dream machine

Its not actually about the experience of the drive. I drove the Persona, and MyvI, and it was both decent with MyVi having an extra edge. My main concern is actually how long can the cars last. Is proton still in that same lame quality segment?
Price wise, it is always good to consider the BLM, but then again, ais the car economical since it looks quite huge for a car using a 1.3liter engine. Fuel prices will go up again this year.. and there is no point having a car which uses lots of fuel… In the end, I still can’t save up on a house.
there’s so much to think about *sigh*

What a bad experience!
My daughter Cynthia has passed her driving test and got a “P” driving licence. She has graduated from secondary school and in a college now. She has requested for a car so that she can drive from Cheras to Sunway instead of giving us troble to fetch her to-and-fro everyday. We have read article about new Proton Saga, with so many good comments, we decided to book a new car for her, worth about RM40,000.
After a few months waiting, the salesman finally told us that the car has arrived. I paid the balance of the down payment, and the car was hand over to me on 30th May 2008 (Friday) afternoon 3:00pm at EON office, Taman Mutiara, Cheras, Kuala Lumpur. My dauther, Cynthia with excitement, pick up the car with his brother, Eric at 6:00pm after schooling. Driving from the EON office to about 1KM, the car brokedown. I called the salesman Kenny, and he seem like it is none of his business, I have to call the Sahabat EON myself.
Handing over A PROBLEM NEW CAR TO CUSTOMER IS NOT HIS BUSINESS????????? Where is consumers rights?
He finally call his friend, a foreman from EON Chan Sow Lin to make a repair. But the car breakdown again and unable to restart a second time when reaching home. The foreman from local service centre at Bandar Damai Perdana was unable to fix the problem either.
What a nightmare!!!!!! New car with QC PASS tags!
The car was towed to the EON workshop this morning. Hoping that this time, they can hand over the car with error free!!
Say “No” to Proton for the rest of my life after this incident!!!!!!!

Richard, by far… yours is the worst experience I have heard on Proton.. man.. if I was in your position.. I’d be really pissed off, and would do the same as you.. which is vow to say no to Proton!!
