Boulevard Of Broken Dreams

I know everyone in Kuching is waiting for Boulevard to open… and it did just that a week ago. It opened its doors, and I heard everyone benefited. From the management to the Boulevard Shopping Mall, to our police traffic.. hahhaa.. I heard the jam was so bad, there was so little parking space, and some unlucky folks got a RM300 fine for illegal parking and obstructing traffic… Well, tough luck guys!!

Maybe most Kuchinginites would be happy with the opening of such a massive shopping mall. I mean, Kuching deserves its share of malls. We Kuchinginites have long been deprived of a shopping mall that Kota Kinabalu has overtaken Kuching as a major destination for shopping in East Malaysia. Oh well.. hope that changes in the future, and Boulevard is a good start.

Impressive view of of Boulevard atrium

The thing is, some people still think that Boulevard is big. And when I mean big, I mean as big as Centre Point Sabah, or City Square Johor, or KLCC. But if you are familiar with all these shopping complexes, you would know that Boulevard is only 1/3 or half the size of these shopping malls. But still, we Kuchinginites are smiling. Maybe I’m not the typical Kuchinginite coz I am not happy. I think I expected too much from Boulevard. I thought it would be as cool as Warisan Square Sabah, or at least defeating Wisma Seberkas for God’s sake. Well, I was wrong. Wisma Seberkas still tops my list as the best shopping mall in Kuching, and Boulevard is second. I was also looking out for the cinema/cineplex which was said to be occupied by TGV, but there was no indication there would be a cinema. Its either there will not be a cinema, or its not yet completed.

Hey!! I know that Boulevard was completed within days before the opening. They were in a rush to open. Its darn obvious… but I never expected so much construction to be going on inside this new complex. At least not at the parking bay!! But everywhere I turned, there was men either building something, or putting something up. I wasn’t impress. I though that they should have opened a little later, and be really ready. Its dangerous having all those scaffoldings still well placed within the building. If there was an accident, I doubt you’d be able to claim from the Boulevard management.

Most shops look like this.. still under construction…

Even the basement is still under construction

Tenants of Boulevard which had opened their shops are also still busy renovating and decorating it

Nonetheless, I am happy that my favourite roasted chicken is back in Kuching, and from the looks of it, it seems they are having a brisk business. I think they are among the few food tenants there, and with KFC yet to open, and McD no where in sight.. I do feel that they will enjoy this good business for a while.

KR!!! I love KR!!! KR is back in Kuching!! Yeah!!

Sinma (a girls best brand) is also here.. so I can assume the ladies would be pleased. There is also a few boutique shops which are surely gonna pull the crowd. I was just disappointed that there is nothing foe people like me. No hand phone shop, IT shop or men’s boutique. Maybe its not ready… I hope so.. but at the moment.. I am disappointed with Boulevard Shopping Mall Kuching. I expected something bigger, but as my friend Razak said when asked to compare the size of Boulevard with other malls in the Peninsular, said… “Boulevard ni bukan lagi lawan shopping kompleks di Johor, boleh masuk lagi dalam shopping kompleks sana” ..hahahhaha…. well, it was funny when he mentioned it… but till now.. I guess the Boulevard Kuching is just a Boulevard of Broken dreams… for me, at least.*sigh*

I hope you realize that only phase one of the mall is open, phase two is said to open next yr, in Nov. According to Wiki. =\ I thk that’s whr the skating rink and cinema is going to be.

Why on blardy earth did they have to rush the opening?!!

  2. Cyril Dason Says:

Yeah.. I know about the 2nd phase, but I thought the 1st phase would be the mall, cinema and skating rink. , and the 2nd phase the hotel. Didn’t know that all those important features were in the 2nd phase :(

I also wonder why they rushed to open it… Kuching has waited for years for a new mall, I don’t think waiting a few more weeks would harm :P

  3. Selfairy Says:

And I can see why Saberkas is the best shopping complex for you. Hahah.. I thk the only mall you can look forward to is ONETJ, supposedly an ICT shopping complex. ;p

  4. Cyril Dason Says:

Hahaha.. its that obvious?? But I’m actually looking forward to a mall which is complete. I mean like Midvalley, where you get everything there, cinema, branded but affordable cloths, IT, electronics etc..

So far, the only shopping complex which can beat Wisma Seberkas is Warisan Square, KK, Sabah, but they do not have a cinema and IT shops. But I just love the atmosphere there, and its a great place to hang out.

Hope the springs can meet my expectation… OneTJ doesn’t seem that captivating at the moment.

Hehehe. I knew this would be an entertaining read. Warisan Square? Dude, I love that place..it’s not as big as Queensbay or..Midvalley or something, but I still love it. I’m looking forward to visiting The Spring too. After my classes, just walk over and catch a movie. LOL. Let’s just hope that it won’t let every Kuchingite down. I have a feeling it won’t. :D

  6. Cyril Dason Says:

Hahah.. so you enjoyed me condemning Boulevard Shopping Mall?? hihihih… But Warisan Square is really in its own category. They’ve got the vibe, and it just rocks!! Its like the management drugged every visitor to Warisan Square, that you just got to come back!

I’m not turning my back on Kuching here.. but that’s the truth. Kuching Malls suck big time. At least at the moment.

Oh ya, a comment from one of the Charles & Keith key management said “People in The springs know how to make a lot of money”, and I think that is a very good indication. Don’t you think so?

looks like a case of bad planning

Well, it does seem like that, does it?

Boulevard is small and actually doesn’t deserved to be called a mall. But it does posed serious competition to other existing supermarket and this mean price war.

Boulevard supermarket goods are cheaper and that is good news for family men. If you guys want to lepak at Boulevard then it’s too small for you guys. But then again, how much money you do really spent on those place other than nagging that it is a small place.

I think Kuching needs more malls.. Voulevard is not up to standard.

    >>>Yea.. Its competition for those in business. I don’t know about the price coz I saw that Boulevard offers really branded and classy stuff. Kind of out of my league to spend on a daily basis. I do however don’t mind spending around RM50 on a place which is happening on a daily basis.. Like Warisan Square KK.. heheh…. and I’m not nagging, but I wish something more for Kuching..

    >>>me too bro!!

the Spring is my place to be !! hehehhee… but somehow, i still prefer to shop at my favorite place, THE CURVE,KL… i like their concept of the flee market… and all other shopping malls like IKANO, IKEA and TESCO all are nearby only…..shopped there almost every month nowadays…

or maybe i love the place because my boo’s crib is only nearby THE CURVE..convenient to go maaa .kekekekkeke…
