Putting Our Man Out ‘There’

I just don’t really get why we are sending Dr Sheikh Muszaphar into space. I didn’t even know that everything was paid by the Russians, as part of the S&P agreement for the fighter jets Malaysia bought from Russia. I guess Malaysia doesn’t have bad credits after all, and therefore doesn’t need any credit counselling. Nonetheless, frankly.. I still don’t get it.. and I still can’t feel the pride of having a Malaysian cosmonaut/astronaut/moon walker/space walker.. whatever they call it these days.. I just don’t bother to differentiate.

Its really ashamed that I just can’t appreciate such a big event for Malaysia. Just like when we conquered Everest, sailed the world, dropped a Proton at the North Pole… its just something lame and normal.. or in Malay terms.. “Biasa…“. I think its worth to mention that this significant event (some would call it this way) was well covered throughout the world (585 articles!!) as even likes of Yahoo, Russia Today, CNN, BBC, AFP, Reuters, Middle East Times and The Times (Africa) featured Malaysia’s name in their articles related to this event, hence making Malaysia getting the better publicity in comparison to the name of the shuttle itself. I guess, this part makes me feel proud, I mean being headlines for something good.

Frankly, I was not even thinking of posting something about this huge event; but something in Marina Mahathir’s blog just got the better part of me. Now, if there’s one blog in the world I would recommend to anyone, it would be hers. Yes.. Tun Mahathir’s daughter’s blog. I just don’t know why, but her blog is just interesting to read. Maybe I can consider myself one of Tun Mahathir’s biggest fan. I guess, I still have a lot of respect for our ex-premier. More than any other minister.*SHhhhhhhhh… don’t tell Pak Lah!!*

Anyway, here’s something I found really interesting in blog… its also related to this event, in a way, so I guess I’m not straying far from the topic…(If this doesn’t brighten your day.. I don’t know what would!!):

Hi Datin,<–refering to Marina Mahathir

Wanted to share this….
Remember when All Asia Broadcast launched our first satellite MEASAT 1?
Many Malaysian dignitaries were present, your dad, Dato’ Mohammed Rahmat, Lim Kit Siang, Ananda Krishnan and a few others.

Anyway, everyone was in the Ariane space control center in Kourou and the count down started. The rocket took off, and the satellite was deployed. I think the insurance underwriters were the most relieved.

After the satellite communicated with the base station, One of the people present said to Lim Kit Siang: -

”Kit Siang, Lu punya Roket Sudah Jalan”

Your dad was drinking a glass of water at the time, he almost choked…

But we are stupid if we dont send angkasawan there after getting good deal during the sukhoi purchase.

This my word about this issue.
