Flying High Above

Merdeka!!! Student’s happy they have finished their PMR exams
I think all Form 3 students in Malaysia would be glad that the Lower Secondary School Examination (PMR) ends today. With the last paper being Geography, students were allowed to leave for home immediately to celebrate their ‘independence’ outside the school compound.

F1 in Schools Competition 2007 for Zone East Malaysia ends yesterday with Kuching schools dominating.
History was also made in the Kompleks Tabung Haji, Kota Kinabalu when Sarawak, or rather Kuching swept clean the podium for the F1 in Schools Championship 2007. Taking pole position was Light Speed, followed by Auto Freaks from SMK Batu Lintang. I was made to understand that SMK Batu Lintang was backed by a hefty RM10 000 sponsorship from numerous corporate bodies. Team Dark Horse which represented my school with a sponsorship worth RM2000, won 3rd place, which is very good since it is its first outing in this championship.

This is the second time my school won something in a high-profile cum highly expensive competition, the first being the National Robotics Competition (NRC) 2007, in which the team D’Trioz won second place in the Open Category for their robot DURABOT. Like the F1 in schools project, this was the first time my school participated in the Open Category of the NRC.

Second place in first outing for Open category
All this achievements adds to the long list of excellence in extra-curricular activities my school has achieved throughout this year. Nonetheless, the biggest achievement would be from the two competitions mentioned above as it is generally supported by international corporations and has international level competitions, for example the F1 in Schools project is supported by F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone which also supports the F1 in Schools international, while the National Robotics Competition is supported by the International Robot Olympiad which organizes the the biggest robotics competition in the world, the World Robotics Olympiad.

F1 supremo, Bernie Ecclestone(left) hugely supports the F1 in Schools project.
I guess this has been a very good year for my school, and I hope that it will continue next year, especially since I am directly involved in the National Robotics Competition as the mentor of the school team.

Nice blog.
Also, a little correction, it’s Black Horses.
SMK Batu Lintang sent 4 teams to the regional finals and 3 made it through to the Nationals in KL, together with Black Horses.
We(teams from SMKBL), had to look for sponsors for our own team only. Aero Flow, a team from SMKBL won the Best Marketing and Sponsorship Award with RM11,000 and some merchandises in the Regionals. As for the Nationals, Light Speed won the Best Marketing & Sponsorship Award.
Sorry if I’ve offended you or anything.

Its okay.. also wondered about the name Dark Horse coz it sound weird, but that’s what I saw on the name list given to me.. Maybe my eyes played me. Anyway, thanks for the correction.. and congrats to your team… SMKBL as a whole.
