PMR Starts Today!

Today marks the start of the Penilaian Menengah Rendah(PMR) or Lower Secondary Examination for all Form 3 students in Malaysia. I just couldn’t help reflecting on the day I took the examination myself, back in 1998. The first paper was always the most nerve wrecking, and always the bench mark to how the other papers would be approached.

How fast time actually flies, as now I find myself looking down at these students, and hoping they wouldn’t over confident just like in this comic strip I found over the net.

But all my hopes soon faded away when I found the answer to something. Its actually something I have wondered since I got the title “Cikguwhich I totally hate especially when used outside school.

If you are thinking of some abstract thing related to education, well… I’ll make it clear to you that its really not that complicated. You see, when I was a student, I always had to sit during classes, and what more to say examinations. Students nowadays start their ‘journey‘ directly when they are in Form 1, or sometimes even in primary school which brings me to wonder why students like to walk around, even when they are told to sit down. Probably I’m still lost in the conventional way of taking examinations where I expect students to sit down just like I did when I was in school. Oh hell… I think I always had to sit down during my exams, including when I was in matriculation, and university.

Fast forward to 2007, and I got my answer….

The students are actually practicing so that they can keep up with their examinations, as it seems nowadays… the PMR examinations walks.

Now I know why parents get upset when I scold their children for walking in class. *sigh*
